Curious about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but not sure where to start? Your first class is a chance to meet the team, try something new, and get a feel for the academy. Carlson Gracie Oklahoma offers a free trial class in South Oklahoma City, near Moore.
New to jiu-jitsu? Start here.
You do not need to know the moves before your first lesson. Let the instructor know you are new, and ask questions whenever something is unfamiliar. Learning starts with the basics.
What will the first class be like?
The academy’s first-class FAQ describes a warm-up, an instructor’s demonstration, and practice with a partner. It also explains that first-day students watch rather than take part in live sparring, often called rolling. You can see how the class works without jumping straight into that part of training.
A little preparation is enough
- Find a time that works. Look at the schedule, then contact the team to confirm the right class for your first visit.
- Ask about clothing. The FAQ says you do not need to buy a gi, the jiu-jitsu uniform, just to try a class. Check with the team about what to wear and the uniform arrangements for your visit.
- Leave time to settle in. The academy recommends arriving 10–15 minutes early to meet the instructor and check in.
